The St. Louis Cardinals and Chicago Cubs face off on Friday in Game 2 of their weekend series at Wrigley Field. On Thursday it was the Cardinals that were able to secure the 7-2 victory. 

The Cardinals sit wit ha 44-53 record overall but they have played well the last week. On Thursday it was the offense scoring nine runs that was the difference. The Cardinals are averaging 4.73 runs while their pitching is giving up 4.95 runs per Game. The pitching is ranked 25th overall, and they need to get better pitching in this Game. Nolan Arenado has hit 21 home runs and driven in 72 RBIs. On the mound for the Cardinals will be Jack Flaherty who sits with a 7-5 record and an ERA of 4.29. Over his last three starts he has gone 18.2 innings total and given up only three runs. 

The Cubs sit with a 45-51 record overall and the offense again really let them down on Friday. The Cubs are averaging 4.82 runs while their pitching is giving up 4.42 runs per Game. The offense is ranked 10th, and they are going to need the offense to step up here. On the mound for the Cubs will be Justin Steele who sits with a 9-3 record and an ERA of 2.96. Steele really struggled in his first start post All-Star break going six innings against the Boston Red Sox and giving up ten hits and six runs.

Flaherty has given up only three runs over his last 18.2 innings and his pitching is heading in the right direction. Look for the Cubs bats to be ice cold here, and it wouldn’t be shocking if they fail to score any runs against Flaherty. This will be an easy victory for the Cardinals.
